Rules My Father Taught Me
My father had a rule he followed:
"Buy every fancy tool in the store."
But a screwdriver will open any can.
And a hammer does everything else.
My father had another handy rule:
"Only really need to measure once."
Then off again to the lumber yard
to buy another length of two-by-four.
My father's daily rule of travel:
"Honey, my fuel tank is empty—again.
Will you bring the extra can of gas?"
Meaning he was busy. Forgot to stop.
My father's rule of honest cooking:
Generously share recipes when asked.
"For biscuits, I always start with flour.
Normally about two hundred pounds."
