Often called the front truck, leading truck, or engine truck, the pilot truck supports the weight of the smoke box and leads the drivers into curves. This two-wheeled pilot truck is called a pony truck; a four-wheeled truck is called a bogie. Pony trucks are connected by a swivel frame which pivots between the steam chests.
