Unique Architecture
Wat Benchamabopit, popularly know as the Marble Temple, is both massive and delicate. It shows many of the architectural features for which Bangkok is famous, as well as some that are unique to this shrine, whose name translates as Temple of the Fifth King. In the early morning or evening, Buddhist monks do their chanting in the temple's chapel.
Bangkok abounds with traditional architecture. Throughout the city are scattered temples, palaces, public buildings, and preserved ruins, all demonstrating the fine art of Thai design. While attending international conference, you'll be able to tour the city (by boat, bus, or car) to enjoy the whimsical yet functional architecture. |

Monumental Statues
Statues are one way the Thai people honor their spiritual heritage. Whether heavily covered with mosaicas shown hereor covered with a simple elegant veneer of gold-leaf, these statues are well maintained. People stop constantly to meditate before them, but you'll be allowed to take pictures at any time.
The Thai are a fun-loving people who impart an unmistakable character to every part of Bangkok. They have respect for the past, yet delight in the modern and luxurious. The people are friendly and their willingness to help will be a boon as you enjoy Bangkok during our international conference. |

Rivers Dominate
The broad Chao Phya river winds through Bangkok in a large arc, linking the city to Thailand's economic regions on all sides. Whether used for commercelike this floating public marketor for transportation (like the famous "long-tailed" river taxis), the Chao Phya river is the heart of Bangkok.
At the markets, you'll find fresh flowers, silk, stone, and wooden handicrafts, gemstones, and souvenirs to remind you of your stay in Bangkok. A delicacy you may enjoy trying at a market is the "durian," a large, spiky-looking fruit served fresh at room temperature.
Connecting major sections of Bangkok to the river are "klongs" or canals which parallel the main roads and provide water access to the many marvelous sights of Bangkok. The Thai people are very attached to their rivers and waterways, making sure that the river's scenic nature is preserved. |

Ceremonial Dancers
The spectacular costumes and sinuous movements of these Thai dancers are a prominent part of the national culture. Classical Thai dance was once exclusively reserved for royalty, but the dances are now performed at the National Theater and at numerous festivals.
