The Liar

I am the amazing chameleon.
I can change with your every desire.
I am truly the chameleon.
If you like, you may call me a liar.

I am the India Rubberman.
I assume many forms of grotesque.
Yes, I am moldably American.
When I'm used, you assume all the risk.

I'm formless until you invent me.
Once shaped, I begin to conceal.
Though I tell you I love you intently,
It's your truth I'm preparing to steal.

I am the India Rubberman,
Who begs you to lend me your eyes.
If you learn to avoid the chameleon,
You might live to be thought of as wise.

My daughter Hannah needed a poem for her drama assignment. She read every poem in the red book and settled on this one. I retyped it as a gift to her.
